I remember fondly when I was younger and using mostly library Internet services that I would often search this topic. I was desperate to know how many codes could I tell Tom Nook in Animal Crossing: Population Growing!
With that warm memory in mind, I wanted to make a page like this that I could use to organize all the codes/passwords that I have found useful!

First: some good news and bad news.
Good: Games still do this! There are (to my pleasant surprise) many 3DS titles which utilize password functionality.
Bad: It can be extremely difficult to find all of this information on the Internet as it stands right now in 2023. It can be difficult to find reliable sources. Many links are majorly outdated, there are often requirements of joining a (defunct) discord server where information *was* hosted. Some websites have shuttered and along with it so has their information they contained. For games that are not beloved classics, the hunt becomes all the more difficult.

At the time of writing this, I have included the sources for where I found this information online to the best of my ability. Despite this information being scattered elsewhere through a couple irritating Google searches, I felt that it was relevant to mirror that information here in an organized fashion---without annoying ads, disruptive begging to turn off my adblock, or any other roadblocks to my progress of just *accessing information*. I often reference this list, so I figured I would share it with you. : )

All Passwords listed are for the North American release.
Go to Tom Nook's store and scroll through the options when speaking with him (after you complete the tutorial) until he allows you to tell him a password.
You may only use three per calendar date. However, you can "time travel" by changing the calendar date by holding down the A button when the Gamecube boots up and manually change the calendar. If you are playing on a Wii, you can go into your Wii settings to change the calendar there.

To enter passwords, go to Config and then to Password Entry. Entering a password will unlock three copies of the CollectaCard at the rarity listed. : )
