WIP!!

Backstory

For the past year or so, ever since the announcement of the Nintendo eShop (for the 3DS and WiiU) closure in March of 2023, I have been slowly but surely adding to my physical 3DS collection. It is a console I have fond memories of, something that I am still startled to find that most people consider obselete---I am still so impressed with it! Somehow, it feels a mix of nostalgic and like 'the future'. But perhaps, I am the one who is getting old...?

Regardless, like all hunts, I had to determine my course of action. First, I decided, since I am not one for digital downloads and things of that nature (reselling videogames has saved my life more than once, if I am going to purchase a videogame it is always best to get physical because the option of a financial return is always there. Digital you are always losing money), I determined that I would have to make a list of the games that I do not own that I am interested in owning or playing. I figured that, since 3DS games still frequently crop up on my local Facebook marketplace listings for 10-20$ that there was no rush for most of them, except for exceptionally niche or low print run titles.

SO... I started off by looking for a different category to mark my quest with. Streetpass functionality! A feature that I always found especially charming about the 3DS is its Streetpass function. This is a function that can never be taken down by Nintendo, and will exist eternally---as long as someone, out there somewhere, continues to carry their 3DS around. While I do fondly remember the days of going to a store and returning home to a Miiplaza full of Miis, now it is a hunt and a signifigant moment when I Streetpass anyone who isn't someone I live with. But this does happen!!! And when it does, I am overjoyed.

Now, each Streetpass with another person is something special. It is so exhilirating to see what *games* we will Streetpass in as well. There are MANY titles which support Streetpass. Some 3DS titles DO NOT support Streetpass. Finding a table of information online was very difficult for me and I had to piece things together by myself. Of course, I think it isn't out of the question that I could have been searching in the wrong places... but regardless...

I began to hunt down titles specifically with unique or interesting Streetpass features. I learned a lot through this process. I am still learning! This list is by no means complete... but someday I hope it will be : )

(Enough of this exposition, this is starting to be like one of those recipe websites...)

Important Info Regarding Streetpass

1. You must turn *ON* Streetpass and again, turn it on or reach a point in the game where turning ON Streetpass in said title is possible. For example, Miiplaza Streetpass is turned on by the user when setting up that application. In Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call, one has to earn 1,500~ish Rhythmia in the game to unlock the Streetpass function---then the player can opt to turn it on or off at their leisure.

2. You can ONLY have 12 titles/games turned on at one time. You can turn on or off Streetpass supported titles. (More on if you lose other player data if you turn one on or off later).

3. For the Miiplaza, there are multiple expansions to your plaza to add more games, and in the case of VIP, more features. If you do not purchase this by the closure of the eShop in March 2023, it is going to become impossible to upgrade it on a stock/retail 3DS. However, this should not be a concern to players who mod their 3DS. Modding a 3DS is a very simple process, and injecting the Miiplaza with the DLC is not a frustrating or intimidating process.

4. I do not know how much player data one can store in each game. I am taking tests of my own on this, but unfortunately, it is a very difficult and slow process to find people "in the wild" who *ALSO* own games and have those games turned on for Streetpass. More on this eventually!

Games + Their Streetpass Features

Game : Their Streetpass feature
Exclusive items, events, or other details, if any
Nintendogs + Cats: Under the Journal menu, you will gain information about the Streetpassed owner/pet, photo, their set message and whatever present they have set. You can also encounter this player's Mii and one of their pets in the park.

There are version exclusive items which can only be obtained via Streetpass, by recieving them as a gift from someone who has the exclusive item from a different version game set as their Streetpass present.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call: Exchange ProfiCards with other players and press the A Button on their ProfiCard to obtain whatever shared Quest they have registered for Quest Medleys mode.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf: The player that has been Streetpassed will be added to the Happy Home Showcase. The Happy Home Showcase is in town, through the arch in the center of main street where Digby is. The Happy Home Showcase has 48 slots, after that the game will replace the homes that you have *least* visited. You can add up to 16 houses to your favorites and they will never be overwritten.

If multiple people are Streetpassed at one time, the chalkboard sign outside of Re-Tail will list additional premium items.

The profile of each player currently inside the Showcase also contains their Dream-ID, which allows you to visit their town via an Internet connection using the Dream Suite, if they had one when the Streetpass occurred.

The owners of each house will be seen walking around the outside the house, and will hold an item which correlates to the number of times that house and the Nintendo 3DS it belongs to has been Streetpassed. The first time a house has been added to the Showcase, the player that relates to that building will not be holding an item. However, from the second time onwards the player will be found holding an item.

These items are:
The color or flavor for each item is from a random selection.
Starting on 11th time, the items will start over from the top of the list and repeat.

When visiting the house of another player, you can buy some of the furniture that they own, albeit at a much higher price.
This only works for items which can normally be ordered from the catalog, and the streetpass balloons. While the balloons cannot be ordered from the Nook catalogue, they can be ordered from the HH Showcase model houses if you streetpass a mayor with balloons in their house.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS: Streetpassing a player allows you to play a game called StreetSmash. There are five different modes: StreetSmash, Practice, Profile, Records, and Tutorial.

In StreetSmash, you battle 12 CPU-controlled opponents. Before the battle, there is a list that shows who has been met via StreetPass; their greetings and stats can be viewed here. After finishing the battle, the player will be awarded with coins, and if the player emerges victorious, a custom part or a trophy.

The player is awarded a gold bonus for playing against people encountered via StreetPass and for winning. Each of these gold bonuses increase depending on the number of opponents.

Tomodachi Life: Streetpass allows other player data to arrive to the Port location on your island. The Port is unlocked by getting at least *ONE* Streetpass.

When a Streetpass interaction occurs, the next time the player visits the port a wooden boat driven by a shop keeper will sail itself onto the Port with a small cardboard box containing an island's exclusive export item, an item that each player can choose, that being an outfit or a hat. The item is then added to your Import Wear and can be purchased normally, but if the you already have the item the cardboard box is discarded once the shop keeper throws it onto the Port.

Alongside the export item, another person's traveler may be sailing on the boat, jumping off alongside the cardboard box. If it is a traveler that does not originate from your island, they will either set up their tent in the Campground or lurk elsewhere. A shop keeper will then pick up the traveler closest to the end of the Port, and ride off with them into the distance. If the traveler does originate from your island, they will immediately return to the Port, realizing that they arrived by mistake.

Export items are determined by your gender and the results of a quiz. You can choose from three quiz results.

Style Savvy: Trendsetters: Information about the player will appear in the Profile Card section in your in game Cellphone. On their profile card, you will see their Name, Name of Shop, Birthday, and some Preferences. You will also recieve their Shop Code here, allowing you to make purchases from their online shop in the Fashion Plaza.

Apparently, you will recieve a shirt based on their Zodiac sign. (So, if you Streetpass someone who has registered themselves as Libra, you will recieve a Libra shirt). This is untested by me and I can only find one source on this info! More to come.

Update: 2023-02-14. After attempting this myself, I will now report on what happens on the first Streetpass encounter of another player! : )

I streetpassed a player and recieved a T-Shirt from the label "Teatro Amare", it was my *own* Starsign. When I asked my friend, they got the shirt of *their own* Starsign, not the opposite way around.
My friend appeared in the in-game Magazine, Nuances. They will appear in Street Snaps, under the options in the Cellphone menu. I was provided the chance to purchase the clothing that my friends avatar was wearing at the time of our Streetpass.
My friend also appeared in my in-game boutique and asked for me to dress her in the theme which corresponds to my store layout. She has yet to get past the point of unlocking Contests, at which point she (my friend), should be able to unlock styling options which she can assign to her profile card, making her character avatar give a more specific request. Her avatar had a budget of 10,000.
